Package Explodes at Winnipeg Law Office - Woman Injured



Police are investigating after an "explosive device was detonated," sending a woman at Petersen King Law firm on River Avenue to hospital with serious injuries to her upper body.

A woman was rushed to hospital with serious injuries to her neck and stomach after an explosion at a the Peterson King law office at 252 River Ave.

She was opening a package when explosives within it detonated, police said.

The first report came in at around 10:15 a.m. and an officer one street over was the first to attend the scene.

Const. Eric Hofley said a woman sustained "very serious" upper body injuries after a possible explosive device was detonated in the Petersen King law office building.

Her condition is unknown.

"I can acknowledge the seriousness of her injuries," Hofley said.

Nearby residents were told to stay inside and police expect to be on scene all day.

Police are unaware if the package was mailed or dropped off.

"How ever it came into her possession, it was triggered inadvertently by the woman." Hofley said.

As Hofley was addressing reporters, he said members of bomb unit were entering the building.

A man working at Joy's Convenience store next door said he was unsure of what happened, but was told to stay inside by police.

    Totally the job of the mafia. This was a "message" sent to her boyfriend from the mob. The guy who made the bomb was probably back on a plane to Italy or Greece within an hour after this all went down.
